 Loftus Road

Loftus Road is a through station situated on the West London Line between Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction and very loosely based on Kensington Olympia. The time line is late 1990’s through to the present day; this will enable a great variety of train movements, on the passenger side there are local suburban, north/south cross country services and empty Eurostar services, whilst on the freight side, Freightliner, aggregate, various Channel Tunnel bound services and even the odd nuclear flask. Add to this the various infrastructure trains and light engine movements the operational scope is very wide.

The layout is a continuous-run oval, with the scenic part of the layout measuring 12′, connecting to a 12′ modular fiddle yard which can also be used for other club projects. Electrically, the layout is controlled by DCC with full lights and sound fitted on many of the locomotives and EMUs, but such is the flexibility of its construction it can also be operated in traditional DC mode should it be so desired!

It has taken the best part of 2 years to get all of the track down, the miles of wiring installed and the complex control panels built on both the fiddle yard and the Loftus Road boards but we are just beginning scenic side of things, with buildings taking shape and some of the fine details being applied.

Please feel free to contact one of the club committee if you would like to invite Loftus Road to your show!

Update to Loftus Road

Since June 2013, we have been working on various improvements to Loftus Road. These will include a larger fiddle yard with eighteen tracks instead of the old twelve tracks. The scenic section will be increased so that the whole of the front and both corners will include more detailed views around the west London area. We are also hoping to be able to include some of the London Underground line that runs into Loftus Road station. How long will this take? Longer than expected. Our first run with Loftus Road is expected to be our own Worthing MRC show in September 2014. Following that, we are booked to appear at Stafford Show in February 2015, followed by the Salisbury Show in May 2015.

All this work is taking time but you can see how we are progressing as we post details onto our RM Web thread
