Our hands-on course is designed for beginners or those who are considering investing in a model railway.
You will learn how to plan, build, and wire a practical model railway layout while understanding the advantages and disadvantages of different construction methods.
What is covered?

How to turn a blank piece of paper into a possible layout.

Practical thoughts on size, place, space and finance. Pros and cons of analogue or digital.

Discussion on layout sizes, from small to large, and how layouts are extended.

Practical demonstration of how we make baseboards and join them together including the use of pattern makers’ dowels.

Practical demonstration of laying out and fixing the points and then using flexible track to make up the layout including how we cut track and join track with rail joiners.

Wiring one point, point motor and switch showing Red/ green LED light.

Learning how to link the wiring from one board to another using a range of connectors.
